Aquaculture
Working on the coast, rivers and lakes in your DNA?

Aquaculture is a hands-on class that teaches students about growing seaweed and bivalves off the coast of Maine. This class will teach students about the nursery, grow out, marketing, and use of the most commonly grown species in Maine, to include: Kelp, mussels, oysters, scallops, and sea urchins. Students who graduate from this program will be ready to work on any farm on the coast and will have the knowledge and skills to found their own sea farm. Husbandry and gear maintenance skills will be learned and practiced both inside the classroom and on the sea farm run by the program. This will allow students not only practical experience on the water but also sea time. To allow students to work safely they will take a cold water safety training course during the fall.
