WALDO COUNTY TECHNICAL CENTER

Preparing Students for Career, College, & Community

welding

The Welding Technology Program is a one year or two year course of study that emphasizes "hands on" experiences in arc welding.  First year students practice the skills required to pass the American Welding Society (AWS) structural welding test and have the opportunity to become certified with AWS as a flat structural welder.  Second year students practice the skills required to become certified AWS all-position welders and have the opportunity to become certified by the AWS.  Emphasis is on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) along with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and oxygen and acetylene torch cutting.  Safety, blueprint reading, weld symbols, joint design and fabrication are studied.  Provisions are made for students whose interests lean more towards art and sculpture welding.

4 Credits  AM or PM (PM class generally for 2nd year students)
