Belfast, Maine — April 2026 — Students in the Aquaculture program at Waldo County Technical Center (WCTC) are making waves this spring as their locally grown kelp takes center stage during Maine Seaweed Week 2026, running April 25 through May 2. In an exciting collaboration with Dos Gatos and Pulling Corks in Belfast and Circumstance in Swanville, WCTC-grown kelp will be featured on the restaurants menus, offering the community a unique opportunity to taste a product cultivated by local students right here in Belfast Bay. This partnership highlights the power of hands-on, career and technical education while celebrating Maine’s thriving aquaculture industry.
“This is an incredible opportunity for our students to see their work come full circle—from seed to harvest to plate,” said Betsy Bradley, “Experiences like this connect classroom learning to real-world impact and show students the value of sustainable food systems and local partnerships.”
For WCTC students, it represents a meaningful milestone: contributing to a local food movement and seeing their efforts celebrated beyond the classroom.
Community members are encouraged to visit Dos Gatos in Belfast, Circumstance in Swanville and Pulling Corks in Belfast, during the week of April 25 - May 2, to support local students and experience the flavors of Maine’s coast.
