Student Portfolio Development
The Portfolio Development activities at Waldo County Technical Center are
an integrated component of all course work. A portfolio specialist works with
students to develop a comprehensive portfolio that can assist their efforts in
post-secondary education or in finding jobs. The portfolios are developed over the
years that students are enrolled in WCTC courses. Students have opportunities to
create resumes and business letters, refine interview skills, and identify areas of
interest for further education or future employment.
Lexile Testing
Underclassmen at WCTC have been given standardized lexile testing during the first
half of May. Students read a 20 minute set of statements and answer
questions regarding the text. The lexile evaluation software varies the difficulty
of the text adaptively according to student responses. The results of the
testing will benefit teachers and students by establishing a clearer link
between the reading level of course curriculum materials and student reading abilities.
