Mathematics Offerings
This course is
intended for those students who would wish to participate in a technical
center program but do not have enough room in their schedule to fit a math
class at their sending school. This program allows students to receive
a full credit in the following subject areas: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I,
Geometry, Algebra II.
|
Pre-Algebra
Pre-Algebra is a
full course that builds on basic arithmetic skills and prepared students for
more advanced math courses such as Algebra I. We utilize up-to-date
textbooks providing discovery activities, hands-on laboratories, real-world
problems, and contextual learning strategies. Topics covered may
include decimals, statistics, equations, rational numbers graphing, powers
and roots, and measurement.
|
Algebra-I
Algebra I is a
full year course that builds on experiences in Pre-Algebra and expands basic
concepts of numbers into the broader areas of Algebra. As in
Pre-Algebra, and using a textbook from the same series, discovery
activities, hands-on laboratories, real-world problems, and contextual
learning strategies provide a solid foundation. Topics covered may
include vectors, scientific notation, linear equations, non-linear
functions, statistics and probability, systems of equations, polynomials,
and quadratic functions.
|
Algebra-II
Algebra II is a
full year course requiring a solid background in Algebra I. We work
from a textbook solidly grounded in real world applications of math and
Algebra theory. An integrated approach to the material allows students
to expand into areas of special interest. Topics may include equations
and inequalities, functions and graphs, systems of linear equations,
polynomials, quadratic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions and
trigonometric functions.
|
Geometry
Geometry is a full year
course building on the student's background in Algebra and arithmetic
skills. We continue with a textbook from the same series as our two
Algebra courses. Logical reasoning and problem solving skills are
enhanced with the hands-on laboratories and work related problems.
Topics covered may include reasoning and proof, parallel lines and
triangles, polygons and quadrilaterals, coordinate geometry and
transformational geometry.
