Law Enforcement

The two year program of Law Enforcement at the Waldo County Technical Center is designed to provide the student with a basic understanding of the criminal justice field.  Professionals from the law enforcement community assist with the education and training.  The curriculum covers basic law and legal procedures, firearms training, courtroom procedures, human relations, police patrol services, traffic investigations, criminal investigations, CPR and first aid, land navigation, hunter safety, military drill, public speaking, defensive tactics, physical fitness, and other topics of interest.

Second year students participate in an extensive job-shadow program where they have a hands-on unique experience to observe the professions in the field.  Agencies include the following:
  • The Maine State Police
  • Waldo County Sheriffs Department
  • Waldo County Communications Center
  • Belfast Police Department
  • Army National Guard
  • Maine Liquor Enforcement
  • Maine Department of Inland Fish and Wildlife
  • Maine District and Superior Courts
  • Waldo County District Attorney's Office

Law Enforcement
The Law Enforcement Program has articulation agreements with Husson College, Andover College, Beal College and Southern Maine Technical College.  Graduates of the Law Enforcement Program at Waldo County Technical Center will receive up to nine college credit hours at these colleges.
