Every year, fire and other emergencies take thousands of lives and destroys property
worth billions of dollars. Fire fighters help protect the public against these dangers.
They are called upon to put out a fire, treat injuries, or perform other vital functions.
Firefighters work in a wide variety of settings, including urban and suburban areas,
airports, chemical plants and other industrial sites, and wild lands and forests.
The Fire Science Technology program is available to individuals seeking to further
their knowledge in the public safety industry.
Students considering a career in Fire Science Technology, do so because they want:
- A job that requires you to use your senses.
- Opportunities to help others in emergencies.
- To work in a public services field that is fast paced and hands-on.
Employment opportunities in the fire service are on the rise. Various advanced
educational opportunities are also available for those wishing to pursue a two or four
year degree program.
Students enrolled in the Fire Science Technology program will also have the
opportunities to explore other related fields such as, emergency dispatching,
emergency medicine, forestry, arson investigation, fire engineering, search and rescue,
and emergency management. Students will also have the opportunity to earn college credit,
receive CPR & First Aid certifications, earn their Basic Firefighter certification
and participate in internships and job shadowing with area fire departments.
Students involved in the program are encouraged to join their local fire departments and
take advantage of the opportunities they have to offer.
