Emergency Medical Services
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are often the first medical professionals
to treat sick or injured people. Upon arriving to the scene of the crisis,
these professionals evaluate the severity of a patient's condition and
administer emergency treatment accordingly.

The Emergency Medical Services program at Waldo County Technical Center is
available to individuals seeking to further their knowledge in the public
safety field.
Student enrolled in the EMS course will have many unique opportunities.
Students will earn to take care of critically ill and injured patients
through lectures, labs, clinical experiences, guest speakers and field
trips. They will develop strong communication skills that will last a
lifetime.
Students considering a career in Emergency Medical Services, do so because
they want:

- Opportunities to help people in life and death situations.
- To work in a healthcare field that is fast paced and hands-on.
Employment opportunities in Emergency Medical Services are on the rise.
Various advanced educational opportunities are also available for those
whishing to pursue a two or four year degree program.

It is the mission of the Waldo County Technical Center's EMS program to
provide each student with the experience and insight into the field of
Emergency Medical Services. It is also our purpose to prepare these students
to become responsible, caring and productive adults who will become the
future EMS.
Students in the EMS program will have the opportunity to:
- Earn five college credits through dual enrollment at Kennebec Valley Community College.
- Receive AHA Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Receive Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers Certification.
- Participation in clinical rotations at Waldo County General Hospital.
- Job shadow at local Fire & EMS services.
Students in the Waldo County Technical Center's EMS program will also have
the opportunity to explore other related fields such as Emergency
Dispatching, Paramedicine, Firefighting, Poison Control Specialist,
Emergency Nursing and Aeromedicine.
