Early Childhood Occupations
The Early Childhood Occupations Education Program is offered as a one/two year course of study.
Students will learn about child development, developmentally appropriate practices, positive guidance
and discipline techniques and many other related skills. |
Students will practice these skills at an on
site child care center (Footsteps) here at WCTC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, students will
be required to volunteer at community child care placement sites on Mondays. Wednesdays and Fridays
will be devoted to the academic component of the program with opportunities for planning activities,
assessing behavior and needs, and skills required for working with preschool children.
|
Students who are considering careers with children in their future are
encouraged to take this program of study. Many students have gone on to post
secondary education programs in the following areas: elementary education,
speech pathology, early childhood education, social services, assistant and
associate teachers at child care centers and family child care. |
