Facility Needs Improvements
The need to take a serious look at the facility and the required improvements
became obvious following an inspection by the State in may 2000. At this
time the Cooperative Board hired Harriman Associates to do a comprehensive
engineering study of the facility. Harriman Associates were the architect
for the original building design and construction.
During an inspection of our facility a certified State Inspector
had found the following violations.
1. Repair all lighted Exit signs. Insure all lights within the fixtures to be
functioning.
2. Insure that all wiring is properly covered. Exposed wiring in the storage
closet.
3. Discontinue the use of multi plug devises in the Child Care Room.
4. Combustible liquids must be properly stored throughout the building.
5. Remove all functioning vehicles from the building while class is in session.
6. Commercial cooking equipment shall be installed with proper ventilation and
fire
control.
a. Commercial stove requires a
hood system.
b. Hood system over the stove
must contain an Ansul System.
7. Shops must have separation from the remainder of the building by fire
barriers
having a fire rating of not less than I hour and protection
of such rooms of an
automatic sprinkler system. NFPA Life Safety Code:
ll-3.2.1(b)
a. Laundries
b. Maintenance shops
including woodworking and paint areas.
c. Rooms or spaces used for
processing or use of combustible supplies
deemed
hazardous by the authority having jurisdiction.
d. Rooms or spaces used for
processing or use of hazardous materials or
flammable or
combustible liquids in quantities deemed hazardous by
recognized
standard.
8. Vending equipment in the kitchen area must be properly installed to an
electrical
outlet. Remove electrical plug from passing through the
ceiling.
