Facility HistoryPurpose The purpose for these pages is to provide a history of the facility, and how it has been changed and upgraded as the programs offered have to meet the needs of the communities and the students have evolved. Why Create these pages? There are two reasons for publishing this information. First, as a way to inform the communities served by this school of the facility history, and the changes and improvements the funds you have so generously provided have been utilized, and secondly, as a thank you to all who supported this effort From then to now Summary - Brief page to describe contents
below 1975 - 1994 -
School Opens - No Capital Improvements during this period The growth and changes reflected in these pages are amazing. The facility was originally open in 1975 as Waldo Regional Vocational Center. The original construction was strong and sturdy and there were capital improvements required until 1994. A new roof and 4 new classrooms were added and funded under a ten year bond, which was retired in 2005. This was followed by a period from 1993 to 2000 when the primary change was to change the school name to Waldo County Technical Center. May 2000 - Maine Fire Marshall Report Based on the above reports, the school started an evaluation process to define its role in the community, and how to shape the facility to meet this role. This lead to a meeting with Dick Babb from the Center FOR EDUCATIONAL SERVICES to discuss the appropriateness of the Future Search for WCTC. The process seemed to fit our need and a retreat was scheduled for October 2001 October 2001 - Future Search Community/Facility Retreat The Future Search was a process that gathered together all the stake holders, and they spent Friday evening and all day Saturday in guided exercises to understand the past and present and then make a plan for the future. November 2001 NEAS&C 10 Year Decennial Accreditation Report Scheduled audits of WCTC by NEAS&C are required to maintain the school's accreditation. A Decennial audit is required every 10 years to renew the accreditation. This audit is followed by an Update audit in 2 years and a Focus audit at the 5 year mark. February 2003 - VFA Facility Condition Audit This audit was required to allow the school to apply for federal grants, and Maine revolving renovation fund loans. April 2003 - Approval of $300,000 Federal Renovation Grant This grant was fully funded by the Federal Government and designated for purposes specified in the application. This grant had no cost to the region taxpayers. June 2003 - Voters Approve $350,000 Revolving This loan was for Priority 0ne (Health & Safety) issues that required immediate action. 54.6% ($191,088) must be repaid to the state. April 2004 - State approval of $1,000,000 Revolving This was the news that makes the Phase 2 plan more of a reality. The approval by the region taxpayers of these 2 loans allowed the full construction project to begin. The additional $500,000 and 55% (550,00) of the $1,000,000 must be repaid. May 2006 - Summary |
